The Donington weekend could not have gone much better for Ana Carrasco (DS Junior Team). Pole on Saturday and a lights-to-flag win on Sunday, with her three closest rivals in the standings prior to Donington – Luca Grunwald (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team), Scott Deroue (Motoport Kawasaki) and Glenn van Straalen (KTM Fortron Racing Team) – all outside the top 5.

The results at Donington Park mean that Carrasco now holds a 22-point lead in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship – the biggest gap at the top since Assen 2017, when Deroue led by 24 points after two races. Of course, the Dutchman’s fate last year provides a stark warning for the Spanish rider: in WorldSSP300 the line between triumph and trouble is finer than anywhere else, and consistency is the key factor to reaching Autumn as the champion.

For now, however, Carrasco is focused and confident that she can keep her current form going: “I’m super happy. The weekend was not easy, but we were calm and worked really well. Now the second victory in a row is incredible for us and for the championship. I can only say thanks to my team, to Kawasaki and to all the people around me, everybody is pushing for me and that’s really important”.

Her 73 points in four races are already more than she managed in 2017 (59). With four more to go, the Murcian has her eyes fixed on the prize: “The goal is to win and we are doing a good job. I don’t know how many points away we are from second, but it’s important because now we have a bit of a gap. It’s the middle of the season, it’s really important to be in this position. We’ll see in the next races what will happen”.
